When we think of trauma generally, we might think of “Big T” events like auto accidents, natural disasters, witnessing or experiencing violence, which are all things people generally associate with trauma.
While these are all valid, there are also “Little t” events, which can build inside of us like a kettle about to boil. The byproducts of living in the modern world (extended periods of stress, feeling overwhelmed with what we must accomplish day to day) can catch up to us, exhaust us, and be extremely detrimental to our well being. These “Little t” events also include experiences like bullying, repeated negative experiences in a particular setting (like doctors offices, interacting with authority figures), or micro-aggressions in the workplace or out in the community.
All of these forms of trauma and disruption in day to day life can warrant seeking therapy. I can help guide you through feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, hyper-vigilant, or having a strong fear response. I can help give you the why; Why does your body react to certain situations negatively, why does your brain not allow you access to certain events that you may be trying to work through.
Often, we can feel without a place to turn in order to work through these confusing parts of ourselves. Everyone deserves a safe space to discuss these situations in their life.
